What Every Overwatch eSports Player Should Know About the Game

Overwatch did something right if it was able to become such a popular shooter. The Overwatch eSport that so many people have fallen in love with was released not too many years ago, in 2016, first for Windows, PlayStation and Xbox One. Later, it was released for Nintendo Switch too.

But while new, the game saw a rapid growth in the professional world, because of the beautiful backstory and because of the unique gameplay. Although it’s a first-person shooter, and a multiplayer one at that, it is also described as a “hero shooter”. This is because the famous video game from eSports also has more than 30 playable characters in its roster, known as heroes.

What is there about Overwatch eSports that every player of the game should know?

There Are Four Game Types

When playing the eSports Overwatch, you have four types of games available. One of these is Assault. Assault involves a territory control mode pretty much. The team on the defense will have to protect a certain square on the map. On the other hand, the attacking team will have to take it.

Escort has one of the teams escorting a payload to another side of the map. The enemy team will try their best to stop them. Unless your opponents are blocking the way, the payload is always moving.

You also have the option of choosing Hybrid. This mode is a combination of Escort and Assault. And lastly, the fourth game type in the game is Control. It’s similar to Assault, with the exception that there’s only one control point.

The Overwatch League Started in 2018

Overwatch League is known in electronic sports today, but it was announced in 2016 at BlizzCon. Blizzard was planning to use an eSport organization full of amazing, permanent teams in league placements. After working hard for this professional eSports league, they managed to establish 12 franchises by November 2017. The franchises were all around the world, and there was a high possibility for them to expand during the next seasons.

As such, in 2018, the league started. While the teams were vying for a prize of one million US dollars with other winnings from a prize pool of US $3.5 million, the second season was a little different. Eight other franchises were brought for a total of twenty.

Healers Are Very Important

Maybe we’re stating the obvious here, but a healer is a very important player. This is why you should be able to learn how to play one. It’s essential to do so because you will be able to quickly switch to a healing position when someone really needs it. In a professional eSport competition, you will see that a lot of times, the healer is worshipped.

If you want to learn how to play one, you can start with Lucio, who is not only easy to play, but also very versatile.

It Wasn’t Meant to Join the Esports Industry

It may sound unbelievable at the moment, but Overwatch wasn’t made for eSports, especially not in the beginning. The goal was to create an enjoyable competitive game, but as time passed, an interest from the eSports community managed to cause the change.

You Need to Communicate

It’s very important to maintain communication with other players. In the eSports industry, you would have to be very social, and being like that while simply playing the game will help you prepare in case you will ever go to competitions. Also, communicating with other players will help you make some friends who have the same passion as yours, and even help you get better at the game.

Final Thoughts on Overwatch eSports

Overwatch eSports news come out every day, and it’s obvious that the game is thriving. If you’re a fan of Overwatch, especially a new one, you need to know everything about it because it could ultimately help you become a better player, and maybe even a famous player in eSports.
